What's Warpspace IT been up to?

Alastair Irvine attended linux.conf.au 2008, Australia's national Linux conference.  This year the conference was held in Victoria, at the University of Melbourne.

Networking

There have been a lot of networking opportunites around recently. Some that I have attended include:

• The first and second Freelancers' meetups (organised through the Australian Freelancers Google Group)
  
• Switched on Business, run by the SBDC
• the Stirling SBC's networking luncheon
• the March, April and May Entrepreneur's Club meetings, run by the AELC

Balancing the books, Open Source style

Since late last year, Warpspace IT has been a proud user of GnuCash, an Open Source accounting program.  Despite what the rumour mill might say, it provides automatic support for GST.  (Note: this is not currently complete, because its GST rounding method is different from what the ATO requires.  I am planning to write a patch for this.)

Last year

Alastair Irvine helped out with an event that ran as part of the Byte Me! Festival, a week-long celebration of art and Digital Content at the Perth Town Hall, Western Australia from 2-9 December 2007.

Warpspace IT also sponsored MASSIVE 2007, the Perth digital content industry's end-of-year windup.
